Units

Metric or Imperial only changes how numbers are shown — it never changes your structure's real size.

Quickstart

  1. Open the units popover (globe icon in the toolbar).
  2. Pick a starting preset — Metric or Imperial.
  3. Open Customize per quantity if you want a mix — length, force, displacement, section area, Young's modulus (E), and stress can each use a different unit than the rest.
  4. Switching the Metric/Imperial preset resets any per-quantity customization back to that preset's defaults, so settle on a system first, then fine-tune individual quantities.

What it is

Units in Truzme cover several separate quantities — length (node coordinates), section dimensions, force (loads), material strength/stress, section area, and displacement — each switchable independently, or all at once via the Metric/Imperial preset.

Display only — your structure's real size never changes

Every model is stored internally in one fixed set of base units, no matter what's shown on screen. Switching the display unit only changes how numbers are formatted and what unit your typed input is read in — it never touches a stored node position, section dimension, or material value. A 4 m member is still exactly a 4 m member whether the screen reads "4 m" or "13.12 ft"; nothing about the structure itself changes, and switching back and forth as often as you like is always safe.

Why it's still worth deciding early

Even though switching is safe, it's still worth settling on a system before you start modeling seriously:

  • Per-quantity customization resets on a preset switch. If you've fine-tuned individual units, flipping between Metric and Imperial discards those overrides and goes back to that preset's defaults.
  • New sections and materials default to values that suit the current system. A brand-new section or material starts from typical values for whichever system is currently active. Switching partway through changes what a freshly added member gets by default — existing members are unaffected, but it's an easy source of confusion.
  • Numbers on screen change shape, even though nothing structural did. 20 mm becomes roughly 0.79 in — the same real length, just harder to recognize at a glance if you've been reading in one system all along.

Behavior notes

Never destructive. Because the model always lives in one base unit set behind the scenes, switching display units — even repeatedly, mid-project — never loses precision or resizes anything.

Independent per quantity. You don't have to pick one system for everything — length, force, displacement, area, E, and stress can each be set separately, e.g. millimeters for section dimensions alongside meters for node coordinates.
