Teaching with Truzme

Why teachers use Truzme in class, how to fit it into a lesson or an assignment, and what it does (and doesn't do) with student data.

A free truss calculator you can put in front of a class without filling in a single form. Almost.

Why teachers use it

  • It's fun. Really. Colourful force diagrams, a deformed shape that animates, results the instant anything changes. When a structure doesn't work, Truzme shows where the problem is. Feedback from classes keeps calling it a "brilliant tool".
  • Zero setup. It runs in the browser. No installation, no license server, no accounts to create for 30 students.
  • Hand calculations become checkable. Students solve by hand, then verify reactions and member forces in seconds. The stability check tells them whether the structure could stand in the first place.
  • Room to go further. Real materials and sections, deflections, utilisation, and buckling — when the class is ready for it.
  • Quick feedback before CAD. Students can try out an idea they've sketched long before they know a CAD or simulation package well enough to test it there.
  • From screen to model. DXF import and export means a calculated truss can become a laser-cut or hand-built one.

  • Engineering and construction courses — including CTE programs, at high school or college level.

  • Maths — vectors, trigonometry, and systems of equations, with a real structure behind them.

Open truzme.com, build a triangle, add a load, and the forces appear. Move a node and watch tension turn into compression. It takes about as long as writing the problem on the board.

Checking homework

The useful order is: solve by hand first, then check in Truzme. The calculator is fast enough to make skipping the hand calculation tempting, so it's worth saying out loud.

Assignments in your LMS

Paste a link into Canvas, Google Classroom, Moodle, or any LMS. There's no login wall and no cookie banner, so it opens straight into the calculator — even embedded in an iframe.

Ready-made material

You don't have to build everything from scratch:

  • Examples — ready-made trusses that open straight in the calculator. Each one has its own link, so you can send an exact example to the class. See Work with examples.
  • Guides — short, plain-language explanations of each feature and the ideas behind it, from getting started to buckling. Good for students to read on their own.

Working with AI

Every model has a project code: a plain-text version students can paste into an AI assistant, ask for changes, and paste back. Useful for exploring "what if" questions, and for discussing when an AI's answer is wrong.

Privacy and safety

Truzme was built without a backend. That was a maintenance decision first, and it turns out to be the best privacy policy there is.

  • No accounts. Students never sign up, log in, or enter an email address.
  • No student data. Truss models are stored only in the student's own browser, on their own device. They're never uploaded.
  • No cookies. None — so no consent banner either.
  • Anonymous statistics only. Cookie-free usage statistics via Vercel Analytics — which pages are visited and which features get used. Never the truss models or anything typed into them. No tracking across sites, no individual profiles.
  • No ads, no in-app purchases.
  • No social features. No chat, comments, public galleries, or public profiles — nothing for students to post and nobody for them to talk to. This is on purpose, and it will stay that way: public galleries are a common reason schools block a site for students.

School approval paperwork

Some schools require a privacy checklist or vendor questionnaire before software can be used in class — for example Australia's ST4S, or a district questionnaire in the US.

Truzme's answers are usually short, because there's nothing collected to describe. If your school needs a form filled in, get in touch and I'll fill it in.

What Truzme is not

Truzme analyses 2D pin-jointed trusses with linear static analysis. It's a learning tool, not a design tool: results aren't meant to be the basis of a real structure without a licensed engineer's check. See the Terms of Service.
